A very busy Easter for Mojácar

Mojácar enjoyed another bumper Easter week this year, according to data collected by the town’s Tourism Office from local hoteliers, who reported very high occupancy levels.

With an average stay of 3 to 4 nights, the 3-star hotels were at 90% occupancy with 85% in the 4-star hotels, whilst apartments reached 100% and rural accommodation saw levels of 94%. 8,863 places were officially registered and operational for Easter, plus 1,500 additional places for rentals.

Mojácar’s tourism portal received 10,625 visits during the month of March, with 4,896 of these from March 23 to April 1. Their Facebook page, Turismo de Mojácar, was visited by 95,335 people from March 23 to April 4, with up to 13,359 views on one day alone.

The town’s Tourist Office was open all week, dealing with 2,878 people, of which 19% came from abroad, with most of the Spanish visitors coming from the Valencia area, followed very closely by those from Madrid and Catalonia.

Just over half of the international tourists came from the United Kingdom, with 8.2% from Nordic countries, 8.1% from France and around 7% from Germany and Belgium. All were here not only for the Easter celebrations, but also looking to enjoy some sports and outdoor activities.

Information on Mojácar’s historic Pueblo, officially one of the most beautiful in Spain, along with cultural pastimes, walking and cycling routes as well as the beaches, have been the most popular enquiries.

The Council also ensured safety by providing the rescue and lifeguard personnel from 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. over the holiday period and also increased the regularity of the local buses, as well as extending the service until 2 a.m. on the busiest days.

According to the figures, Mojácar’s Easter week was a huge success even though it arrived early on the calendar this year with the ski season still on and, forecasts of poor weather. Fortunately, the town
was blessed with hot, dry temperatures, with many people taking the opportunity to enjoy the beach and sea.
