MOJÁCAR RAISES BLUE FLAGS, WITH BEACHES ALL SET FOR SUMMER

Four of Mojácar’s beaches; Marina de la Torre, Piedra Villazar, Venta del Bancal, Ventanicas and El Cantal have been awarded blue flags for the 2017 tourist season.  These distinctions have been granted by ADEAC, for the quality of sea water, information, environmental education and management, safety, services and facilities. Now that the tourist season is well and truly underway, all the town’s beaches are ready for the summer.

Mojácar’s Mayor, Rosmari Cano, raised the flags, along with Tourism Councillor, Emmanuel Agüero and other members of the government team.  The blue flags are of great importance to the Town’s Tourism Department, as  a recognition of the on-going municipal efforts to improve quality and the coastline, whilst respecting sustainability and the environment.

For this summer, Mojácar has 25 lifeguards who will be keeping a watchful eye over everyone from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  To carry out their tasks, they have at their disposal; a zodiac, two jet skis, an ambulance and six amphibious chairs for people with disabilities, as well as a specialized lifeguard, who can accompany anyone safely into the sea.  They also have seven modules on the town’s various beaches, each with oxygen therapy, defibrillator, stretcher and first aid materials.

Throughout the tourist season, several rescue drills are planned for Mojácar’s beach areas, with simulated rescues by the lifeguards, including an ambulance and the local police.  This ensures that they are all set for immediate action, as well as giving those on the beach an idea of what their work involves.

All along Mojácar’s kilometres of beaches, there have been accessibility improvements including new adapted showers, as well as special walkways and shade for those with disabilities. These, along with other developments will ensure that both tourists and visitors enjoy the best beach experience.
