Mojácar's Valparaiso Foundation opens 20th "Paul Beckett" Poetry Competition

No vigente.

Mojácar’s Valparaíso Foundation has set the date for entries for the 20th "Paul Beckett" Poetry Prize, that will be awarded to a book or collection of poems selected by a prestigious jury.

The works put forward may be of a free theme and form, but must be original and unpublished, written in Castilian Spanish and presented in duplicate.  The prize on offer is 4,000 Euros and, the jury will be made up of prominent writers with an academic chairperson who will together make a final decision.

The deadline is 14 December and entries must be sent to the Valparaíso Foundation clearly marked "Para el Premio Poesía Paul Beckett." A separate sealed envelope (attached to the work) must include the writer’s full name and address along with a brief bibliography.  The winning work will be published in the "Beatrice" collection, created for this purpose and, the result will be made public in February 2019.

The Valparaíso Foundation is a private, non-profitable institution for the promotion and research in the field of fine arts, literature and music, founded by the Danish couple, Paul and Beatrice Beckett, who came to live in Mojácar in 1972.  They bought and restored the old olive oil mill at the foot of Mojácar la Vieja that is still today a residence for artists, writers and researchers, who each spend two weeks working there thanks to the scholarships and support given by the Foundation and Mojácar Council.

The Valparaíso Foundation carries out many other activities within the world of culture, in addition to the residences and this poetry prize, holding a prestigious position within literature, photography, theatre and the Proyecto Luna youth programme.
