On March 17th, Mojácar will kick off the Provincial Circuit 2019 season with the VIII MTB Sierra Cabrera Xtreme/La Mojaquera, an event which always pulls in the top national mountain bike riders.

It has become one of the, popular, classic races in the sport, as a test of high endurance which takes them through some fabulous scenery and countryside.

Race organizers, MojácarBike CCD, with the collaboration of the Mojácar Council have planned a number of new features and improvements this year, although it will still run along the slopes of Sierra Cabrera.

For the first time, it will start and the finish in Mojácar Pueblo and, the Plaza Rey Alabez will be where the 400 racers will gather at 8 a.m. for both the non-competitive "short circuit" of 43 Kms and the "long circuit" of just over 75 Kms.  Another new feature is the inclusion on the route of Los Miradores track, to set a further challenge with its spectacular views alongside the Mediterranean.

There are 540 participants registered, but only the maximum number of 400 can take their place at the start, in compliance with race regulations. Riders will be coming in from all over Spain, with a large number from the Alicante area, which has a strong cycling tradition. Among them will be the 2014 Spanish Champion, Juan Pedro Trujillo, with his team, current La Mojaquera champion, Victor Manuel Fernández Grande, as well as a host of well known male and female stars from the cycling world such as Manuel Beltrán, Jesus of Nero and David Arroyo.

To ensure the whole thing runs smoothly, there will be over 100 volunteers, both Guardia Civil and Local Police, Civil Protection and medical teams.  They will ensure the participants’ safety throughout the circuits as well as man refreshment and water supply points placed at strategic points along the route.
