MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE TAKE PART IN THE MOJÁCAR SOLIDARITY RACE

With great success in participation and organisation, the “Junt@s somos más fuertes” (Together we are stronger) solidarity race was held in Mojácar, promoted by the Local Council in collaboration with the Red Cross and the “Los Bandidos” group of Mojácar athletes

Although the start for the runners was scheduled for 12-noon, a festive day like last Saturday had already got going at 10.30am with different activities beforehand such as a bio-dance workshop that, among others, served to warm up some or to stretch for many participants in preparation for the solidarity race.

For their part, Red Cross volunteers created a space for the little ones with board games, a gymkhana park, children's bingo and Twister.

The route was set with the start from the Red Cross facilities, going as far as the Hotel Indalo and returning. A total of five kilometres, in which the pace, slower or faster, could be chosen by the participants, among whom were adults, teenagers and the occasional pet.

More than 200 people took part in this sporting event with a 5-kilometre route along the seafront promenade, without slopes and with views of the sea.

All the proceeds have benefitted the Red Cross. A solidarity race that to top it all off had a giant paella for all the participants and their families, with the aim of spending a day together, when even the weather accompanying them was brilliant sunshine and a very nice temperature.

The Mojácar Council Sports Councillor, Jesús Montoya Gredilla, watching at all times during the race, expressed his satisfaction with the high number of people who registered: “It has been a very powerful call,” he commented, “on the one hand, it highlights the important role of women in all areas of society, especially in sport, where they are rising to the positions they deserve, and on the other, they try to help an institution like the Red Cross, which is an essential pillar in assistance to the most needy.”

The Local Council government team did not miss the event either, with some of the members even taking part in the race itself with good results.

The prizes for the best classified were presented by Mojácar Council councillors and the President of the Mojácar Red Cross, Concepción Rivero Puche.

To highlight that the winner in the men's category achieved a time of 20 minutes and five seconds and the best women's time recorded was 20 minutes and 25 seconds.

This charity race has been organised in Mojácar for several years and has always been very popular. It is not only a sports day, it is also the recognition of the residents of Mojácar and nearby towns of the work of an association like the Red Cross.
