MOJÁCAR PROMOTES A DECISIVE YEAR OF TRANSFORMATION, SUSTAINABILITY AND TOURISM DEVELOPMENT
Mojácar Council is taking stock of a year of intense activity and municipal management marked by investment in infrastructure, coastal regeneration, improvements to public services, and the promotion of strategic projects that position the municipality as a leading tourist and environmental destination in Almería province.
Over the past year, Mojácar has undergone a transformation process that combines modernity, sustainability and well-being for its residents, thanks to its firm backing for balanced development and long-term planning.
Coastal regeneration and climate change adaptation.
One of the most significant milestones has been the start of the coastal regeneration works and the actions for adapting to climate change, with a total investment of more than €1.1 million. This project, already underway, will transform the municipality's seafront, improve coastal resilience, and consolidate Mojácar as a modern and sustainable tourist destination.
These actions are part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destinations, which will allow for strengthening the competitiveness of the municipality and attract tourism that respects the environment.
Investments in infrastructure and improved connectivity.
Almería Provincial Council has allocated €700,000 to road improvements in the municipality as part of the 2025-2026 Highway Plan. This is in addition to the repair of the Las Pilas road, with an investment of €125,000 from the Itínere Rural Plan, which guarantees safe access to farms and residential areas.
In addition, the continuation of the Mojácar bypass project is currently in the planning stages, a key infrastructure project to alleviate traffic and improve mobility between the coast and the interior. The Local Council continues working to unblock and reactivate the project in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Promotion of sustainability and basic services.
On environmental matters, construction has already begun on the new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Playa Macenas, a project that will guarantee more efficient water treatment and which will allow its reuse for irrigation and sustainable uses.
In addition, the municipality will benefit from the modernisation of the Almanzora water treatment plant, which will increase the availability of water resources for the entire Levante Almeriense region.
High-quality tourism and residential development.
Mojácar is entering a new phase of expansion with top-class tourism and residential projects. Of particular note is the agreement between the Cosentino family and the Hyatt chain to build a five-star hotel in the Macenas Mediterranean Resort complex, which will include a spa, golf course, and residential areas. This is a strategic investment that will generate stable employment and strengthen Mojácar's international image as a sustainable luxury destination.
At the same time, the developer Jaquil has begun the second phase of the Los Altos de Macenas residential complex, featuring 88 contemporary homes, two swimming pools, and landscaped gardens, reinforcing its commitment to a modern, balanced urban development model that respects the natural environment.
Commitment to the future and quality of life.
The Local Council is reaffirming its commitment to residents, striving for a greener, more accessible, and better-connected Mojácar. The priority remains improving its residents’ quality of life, attracting responsible investment and protecting the municipality's valuable natural and cultural heritage.
“Mojácar is experiencing a pivotal moment of growth and transformation. Our commitment is that every project, every construction, and every investment contributes to improving people's lives and guaranteeing a sustainable future for everyone”, the Mayor Mayor stated.
