Mojácar Council has put out to tender the drafting and construction of the town’s coastal variant road on the A-1203 section, Paraje de las Marinas.

The contract will be graded under administrative services and will be come under the LCSP Law of Public Sector Contracts, in terms of its preparation, award, modifications and finalization.

The base bidding budget for this contract has been valued at 149,439.68 Euros (including IVA) and this estimated amount is in line with Article 101 of the LCSP, according to the costs of the total items involved in the project.

The award procedure is an open one, by which any interested business may present a proposal, although it is a requirement to be registered and practicing within a related organisation.  The implementation period is six months, with no partial periods or extensions.

In 2002, a Study Order was drawn up for the drafting of the Mojácar coast bypass project. This Study Order was approved that same year by the General Director of Roads from the Junta de Andalucía’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

As a result, two construction projects to be carried out in two phases were finally drawn up, that of the A-370 sub-section to the ALP-818, which was completed in 2005 and, the ALP-818 and ALP-118 sub-section, classified as phase 2, with a length of 5,762 metres.

Given that the Environmental Impact Declaration for the 2nd phase was considered unfeasible, the General Directorate of Infrastructure from the Ministry of Development and Housing annulled the action.

However, given the importance of this section to the town, Mojácar Council initiated the necessary procedures to proceed by forming a collaboration agreement with the Junta de Andalucía’s Ministry of Development and Housing, which was signed in 2017.

A preliminary project was drawn up in the same year to begin construction, which after several adjustments at the request of the Environmental Delegation, received its approval in January 2021 through the Territorial Delegation for Sustainable Development in Almería.

This variant will bring an alternative route to Mojácar’s coastal road, providing more direct access to existing urbanizations. Additionally, through these connections and future cross section roads starting from the project’s existing roundabouts, there will be access to the coastal road at different strategic points.  This should have the benefit of decongesting the beach traffic as well as improving safety, especially during the busy summer time when those moving around the town experience long delays and holdups.
