The Council had already unanimously agreed to the free land transfer to Almería’s Port Authority (APA) of the hillside plot facing the sea at Marina de la Torre, which was able to be fully approved after being announced in an official provincial report. The new lighthouse will be constructed at the highest point on Cerro del Moro Manco’s north slope, on a 221,144 m2 plot, 150 m above sea level.

This APA led project will be financed through Interport Funds, approved by the State Ports, with a planned budget of around 300,000 Euros. After selecting the site, the APA will be responsible for drafting the project, which as well as the construction of the lighthouse and tower, includes an operations house, all the associated machinery and the access road.

APA President, Jesús Caicedo, who had previously inspected the selected plot with Mojácar’s Mayor, Rosmari Cano, along with Port Authority and local Council engineers, offered his thanks for the Council’s collaboration in undertaking a project which will improve the maritime signal system of the Almería Levante coast. He also added that the lighthouse will spread Mojácar’s image far and wide once in operation as, “Mojácar, already well known, will be even more so, as its name will appear on all the world’s nautical charts”.

Another pressing matter on the agenda, was the approval of a special credit in order to implement the Councils’ "Mojácar Contigo" plan, which is earmarked to provide Council funded economic and social aid to assist the recovery of those seriously affected by the current health crisis.
